About the Exhibition

Karuizawa New Art Museum 1F Gallery (Whitestone Karuizawa) is pleased to present "color of the earth -" Mutsumi Hagiwara's first solo exhibition at Whitestone Gallery.

Mutsumi Hagiwara expresses the changeable and ephemeral natural phenomena with the eternal material "glass". She also records her thoughts and feelings at the time and scenes of nature in "words" and "photographs," preserving the artist's memories through three different media.
This exhibition will feature approximately 20 glass works, including new works, centering on "Earth Shadow," one of her representative series born from her encounter with natural phenomena in the sky.

Earth Shadow" is the name of a natural phenomenon in the sky that actually exists. It is a phenomenon in which shadows created by the earth blocking sunlight are reflected in the sky as blue bands, and can be seen on the opposite side of the sun at sunrise and sunset.
