About the Exhibition

The sculptures of the traditional Japanese deities produced by the artist convey the pride and self-awareness as Japanese which the artist felt on the occasion of the death of Emperor Showa. We could not avoid feeling shocked by the works looking back at our origin. His works are the result of the dialogue between the deities and the artist.

Message

“Mitamanofuyu”
There is a faith that superior souls propagate themselves and reborn as a new power. “Mitamanofuyu” is a word to express the national characteristic which interprets the gifted skills and abilities as a power given by the god. I believe that we need to look ahead our national characteristics and the history of our ethnicity that should be inherited, and the expression which based on the belief to the god should be more diverse and developed today.
