Ronald Ventura: About the Paintings, Focusing on Room 3

We would like to introduce the four huge paintings in Room 3, Untitled (including “Paradise”) (created in 2021).

Although many three-dimensional works stand out in this exhibition, four works that lead us to admit that the artist is a great painter greet us in Room 3.

A blond-haired boy I’ve seen somewhere is looking at me.

“Richie Rich,” the main character of an American comic book (Harvey Comics), is a boy who often appears in Ventura’s paintings. His works are full of deformed characters from cartoons, comics, movies, and video games, as well as Mickey Mouse, Donald Duck, Snoopy, Pinocchio, and many Japanese anime characters themselves.

The background of Untitled (original title: Paradise) is gray and eerie, and there is no center to be seen. There are so many layers of paint in different dimensions that you discover new people, animals, imaginary creatures, and other characters every time you look at the screen. It is a mixture of fun and gloom, cuteness and grotesqueness, and perhaps this is just the kind of chaos we see when we take a bird’s eye view of the modern society we live in.

*This is a very large work that can only be seen at the exhibition. In fact, this is the new work that Ventura wanted us to use as the first main image in the exhibition. (Unfortunately, due to copyright and other issues, we cannot make it into goods or posters. A little special disclosure only on this website!)
