This is a follow-up to the art training class held on Thursday, November 6th.
The other day, I was invited to attend a review class on art appreciation for Class 2-1 at Karuizawa Junior High School, and I was able to attend the first period art class.
It was the third morning this season that Mount Asama was covered in snow.
First, in class, Professor Usuda will create a panel introducing the works of the exhibiting artist, Ay-O, using software called Canva and show a sample.
Next, the students were asked to choose their favorite piece of work, and then they were to create an introductory panel, deciding on the layout and text from a blank sheet of paper. The pieces they chose were unexpectedly sophisticated, and I was struck by their attention to detail.
Also, unlike when I was a student, each student participates in class with a tablet PC. They access information about the artist and images of past works, and select and discard information. The finished product is stored in a folder on the cloud.

This was a culture shock for me, but it also got me thinking about the future when my children will be adults.
We discussed with the teacher that in this age where everything can be completed on a screen, "live" experiences are becoming more important, and it was a good time to reflect.
