Our museum will be holding the exhibition "Ronald Ventura: An Introspective" from 2021/8/7 to 2022/ 4/ 10.
Karuizawa New Art Museum is conducting a "Teachers Campaign" for teachers from elementary, junior high, and high schools in Karuizawa as a program to introduce the museum to children and students. Teachers are invited to the exhibition free of charge as a preview for school group tours.
Even if your school does not have specific plans to visit the museum, please feel free to use this as a reference for art appreciation classes.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, it is difficult to engage in group activities, so we have decided not to designate designated viewing days and will allow visitors to visit at any time during the event.
In addition, if you are a teacher from the neighboring Nagano Prefecture or other prefectures who is interested, please feel free to contact us by phone or email.

REPORT
On Friday, January seventh, a total of about ten students and teachers from the first to third year of high school who belong to the Karuizawa Town Learning Center, a public cram school located within Karuizawa High School, participated in an appreciation class for the currently ongoing "Ronald Ventura Exhibition - An Introspective."
During the two hours of viewing time in the afternoon, we were able to see a variety of different behaviors throughout the Ventura exhibition, from students staring intently at each piece, to those who were enthusiastic about talking in front of the works, to those who were contemplating the pieces and finding commonalities between them, to students who took the time to look at the works together with their teacher and reflect on the changes they have experienced over the past year.
What does it mean to "understand" or "not understand"? Watching the students and teacher tackle the question of "contemporary art" head-on made me think anew about the role of art, and it was a valuable opportunity to reaffirm the appeal of Ventura's work.
