Matthew Rose: Weekend Plans

REPORT

Just looking at the materials that Matthew brought, such as old French newspapers and illustrated encyclopedias, is fun!
On Sunday, December 12th, we held the "Let's Make a Petit Collage Calendar" event.
Here we will give you a brief overview of the workshop.
"Find an image you like among old paper. Then cut it into small pieces with scissors or by hand and combine it with other images to create completely different new creatures and worlds." "Shred it, cut it up and scatter it around!"
Participants received instruction in collage from Matthew Rose himself.
We cut up and pasted together old magazines and encyclopedias that Matthew had sent to Karuizawa from France in advance for the workshop.
Since it was a calendar for 2020, we had to make collages for each month, which meant quite a lot of work, but everyone was engrossed in the creation of the materials, which were all lovely and nostalgic.
At the end, everyone had a satisfied smile on their face, and Matthew had a smile on his face too. Thank you to everyone who participated and to Matthew!

Matthew's solo exhibition "Weekend Plans" is currently being held in the 1st floor gallery until January 13th next year.
Do not miss it!
The museum will also be holding its annual New Year's workshop from Friday, January 1rd to Sunday, January 3th next year.
Please feel free to drop by. We look forward to seeing you.
The joy of collage is to skillfully paste together motifs that you happen to pick up or shapes that you cut out by chance, to create a unique world view or a strange creature!
Thank you to everyone who participated in the two-hour workshop! Everyone was smiling with satisfaction as they held their very own original 2 planners in their hands.
After the workshop, Matthew kindly agreed to sign autographs and pose for photos.
