[Workshop Report]
We held three "Exciting Art Talk Tours" during the summer vacation. Six groups of people participated in the tours, ranging from a three-year-old girl to grandparents, from people in Karuizawa to families in Tokyo, Kanagawa, and Gunma.
It was impressive to hear everyone who participated in the tour say things like, "I've come to like contemporary art," and "It was fun." From what I saw in the participants' reactions, I felt that art is a mysterious thing that connects people, and the more you talk about it, the more attached you become to it. When you look at a work and comment, others empathize, and in response, they express different opinions, and emotions, sensations, and thoughts influence each other. It's just like meeting someone. One family who participated in the first tour commented, "I would have passed by a work if I had been looking at it alone, but when you go around and take a quiz and share your thoughts, it's so much fun!" This is the result of a very honest reaction to the encounter with art and its appeal.
It would be our great pleasure, as an intermediary, if these events continue to inspire both adults and children to fall in love with contemporary art and turn the museum into a place for free conversation. We plan to continue holding tours to share the appeal of the artworks, and we hope that everyone will join us.
Meanwhile, on Sunday, August 18th, the annual "Let's Make a Disposable Chopstick Gun" event was held by master craftsman Kinji Nagata.
As is the case every summer, Mr. Nagata personally prepares new rubber band gun kits, which the participating children become fascinated with. This time, the children made one type of chopstick gun and colored it with water-based ink to create a colorful, original chopstick gun. The teacher's homemade 167-shot hand-crank rubber band gun was also very popular, and some of the parents were seen becoming engrossed in it. Thank you to Mr. Nagata and everyone who participated!
