Exhibition Section

Mail artists will be coming to the museum on July 7th (Sat) and 16th (Sun)! The museum has held mail art workshops several times in the past. In the currently running exhibition "Shozo Shimamoto - The Impact of the Avant-Garde", Shimamoto himself exchanges 17 pieces of mail art with 60 countries a year, so the sixth exhibition room features mail art, and over 8000 pieces of mail art sent to the museum from all over the world are on display. On the 6th, there will be a lecture and performance by a mail artist who actually creates communication art using mail. Anyone who likes art can participate. And on the 350th, there will be "Let's Make Mail Art", where a mail artist will be the lecturer and participants will create original mail items based on the mail art currently on display from all over the world. If you send the completed work to the museum, you will receive the special privilege of having your work exhibited!

On Monday, July 7th (national holiday), we will be making a disposable chopstick gun. We will invite Mr. Kinji Nagata, a familiar face at KaNAM, to make a cool gun using disposable chopsticks and rubber bands.
Reservations are required to participate in the workshops on the 17th and 18th. Space is limited, so please make your reservation early.

REPORT

On the 16th, a large number of mail artists gathered. There were many events, including lectures, performances, and roundtable discussions!
This is a report on the events that were held over the three-day holiday in July. On July 7th, seven mail artists gathered for a mail art meeting, lecture, and performance. On the 3th, there was a workshop where artists demonstrated how to make mail art. Then, on the 7th, there was a chopstick gun making workshop, where Professor Nagata Kinji was invited to make three different types of guns. As many as 16 children participated in the morning and afternoon sessions, making it a very lively event. The museum was filled with a wide range of age groups, from kindergarten children to high school students and adults, and the three days were filled with energy.
Thank you to everyone who came to Karuizawa! Thanks to you, it was a fun and fulfilling event!

Children and adults alike are enthusiastic about creating mail art.
Mr. Nagata Kinji, a master of chopstick gun making and instructor. The children were concentrating hard on their guns for an hour and a half. They couldn't wait to try them out.
