Tsuyoshi MAEKAWA (1936-)

TSUYOSHI_MAEKAWA

Under the influence of Abstract expressionism during the Gutai period, Maekawa pursued the materiality of objects. Maekawa glued, tore and sewed burlap fabric to create bumpy surfaces, which embody space and solidity in his tableau works. This current exhibition is an overview of Maekawa’s works from the Gutai period to the present. Viewers will find the powerful wavy patterns and vivid color coordination that evoke Jomon Kaen earthware to be truly magnificent.
