Ronald Ventura, TV-type works: Looking at us living in a “show society”

We would like to explain about the five TV-type works on display as you enter Room 5.

Inside the CRT TVs, the lives of people in the Philippines, made of miniature figures, are spread out.
In the room of a figure relaxing in a reclining chair, there is a computer, then a book labeled NBA, a trophie and a basketball are placed.
There is the Westernized life of modern people, and although it looks rich, it is Solitude, as the title of the work suggests. In Habit Hour and Mother of Drama (both 2010), we can see a devout Catholic family, mother and child praying to God in front of a simple meal. In Win or Lost, a figure clutching a piece of paper from a lottery called “Loto” prays to God in a room by himself, and the image is presented with a sense of humor.

While showing the disparity between the rich and the poor in Philippine society, these TV-type works make us feel as if we are looking at modern people through a TV tube.
