A dance of geometry and a prevailing dread fill the voids of Room 1.
The pieces in Ventura’s “Black Star Series” in cement, fiberglass, resin, metal, acrylic and LED hold court in menacing, black-magical fashion. The sharp, jagged, piercing nature of the compositions (talons, wings and claws forming inverted stars) is balanced by the meditative mood of “Waves.” Although the struggle of the figure’s strained rowing symbolize how navigating the sea and shooting for the stars brings a sense of being mobile and yet unmoved.
