Ronald Ventura, “Regarding the sculptures in the room 2″

In the room 2, you will see Humanime Series (2021), a group of colorful bears, two giant Unicorn Horns (2012), which glow with LED lights, and Humanime Girl (2011), which looks like a mix of Greek sculpture and robot. At the same time as being as fun as opening a toy box, these works are full of “contradictory” meanings, as if they question the words “play,” “toy,” and “sublime,” “tradition,” and “work of art” that the artist likes to use, and they invite us into the space of their playfulness.

Unlike conventional sculptures made of natural materials such as iron, stone, and wood, which have different expressions, Ventura’s works are made of plastic and fiberglass (so-called FRP), materials that reflect the modernity of the digital world and consumer society, as well as industrial products that can be reproduced in any number of ways.
