About the Exhibition

“The scene comes up in the light, is that ***’s something, or the memories I saw with someone, or the memories of those days I forgot?
What comes to mind when your eyes were caught by this brilliance?”
-Karen Shiozawa

Karen Shiozawa is an up-and-coming artist who has just completed her M.A. in Fine Arts degree at Tokyo Zokei University. Her experience of spending childhood in the Netherlands is deeply reflected in her works as a unique sense of perspective and the exquisite contrast between light and shadow. In order to extend the range of "communication" to share her own worldview with others through the works, she takes a care of her childhood memories and sympathizes with the feeling of everyday life. To depict a world that can be perceived through means other than sight, she has sought out representations using elements such as sound and light which appeal directly to the viewer's five senses.

The theme of this exhibition in “In search of the landscape lurking in the depths of human memories and hearts”. The exhibition title, "Beyond the sea of melody", contains the artist's wish to open the door to people's imagination by exploring a world beyond the capacity of sight.

The "misalignment" in the abyss of consciousness and perception lying between people – these quiet voices inside which tend to be unnoticed in the real world are scooped up by Karen Shiozawa, who has been creating the works that reach out to the heart. Beyond the new doors of imagination that she unlocks, vivid colors of light and sound images are extended. Sincerely hope that the melody of light coming from her works will resonate with the heart of each and any viewer.

We cordially invite you to come visit this precious opportunity.
