About the Exhibition

Karuizawa New Art Museum is pleased to announce the exhibition” Worldwide Artists of Asia with Continuous Evaluation from Today's Perspective---vol.3 (Period 2)” focusing on prominent Asian contemporary artists from our unique perspective. This is the commemorative third exhibition of our project over several times.
Following Period 1 we would like to focus on “abstract painting” which emerged around the world in the past after World War II, presenting the following 3 artists: Toshimitsu Imai, Hisao Domoto who went to Paris to engage in Art Informel in 1950’s , and simultaneously Yayoi Kusama who went to New York and devoted herself to her own world of painting like "Infinity Nets" .
Besides from Period 2, we are delighted to introduce Lou Zhenggang, a Chinese contemporary artist (1966~ ). Highly acclaimed from her childfood as a genious for her intelligence and memory in addition to her talent of calligraphy Lou has grown up in specific educations for gifted children supported by Chinese goverment. Since 1986 the artist lives in Japan and today she works hard in pursuit of her new style of painting referring to fusion of calligraphy and contemporary art.
In this exhibition 45 works in total including a folding screen about 8 meters wide (2015) and her new paintings produced in 2018 are displayed in three exhibition rooms: Room 5 and 6 on the second floor and Banquette room on the first floor.
We hope a body of works displayed in this exhibition could invite viewers to parallel universe and bring them brand-new experiences.
